Day 87: Barbados

Every time we are in Barbados, I think that, of all these beautiful islands, it's my very favorite. Of course, I have from time to time, thought almost the same thing about almost all of these islands. But Barbados is a very special place.

We had had every intention of spending today on a beach. Barbados has many of them, and they're all beautiful. But. It turned out, we weren't in beach moods again today. We arrived in Barbados early (at 7am), but we departed early too (4pm). And it was close to 11am before we got our start for the day.

Simply put, I'm tired. I keep pointing out to G that most of these couples who stay on the ship for 4 or 6 cruises at a time don't even get off in the ports anymore. Or, if they do, they do a quick walk around the terminal area and get right back on. Which, as G points out, makes it all the more important that we do as much as we can now, while we're still able to.

So, with that in mind, we set out again today for a long walk along the water. I did enjoy it, once we got started. We're so familiar with the waterfront area of Bridgetown that it's no different than taking a walk around the neighborhood at home. Well, it's maybe a little different. Here we're walking on centuries old cobblestones and broken sidewalk, crossing streets where they drive on the left and we're not even sure which direction to look to spot oncoming traffic.

Photo 1: We were in port today with the Fred Olsen Braemer (which was also in St. Lucia yesterday), the Rising Sun, which is the largest charter yacht in the world...

Photo 2: and the Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas, which we've been on before and which I think is one of the prettiest cruise ships sailing today.
