By this point we were drenched with sweat and getting hungry and (more so) thirsty, so we headed back to the ship. Of course, with G, we took a slightly circuitous route, but we saw so much more by doing so.
I think that we were shocked the first time we came here several years ago. Dominica is, perhaps, the poorest island we visit on these cruises. The people really have nothing, at least not compared to our US standards, but they are so friendly, so proud, and very religious. Despite their poor surroundings, they dress beautifully for church, with the women in nice dresses and hats and the children in their best clothes. We heard a church choir beautifully singing inside one church, and would have loved to have stopped in, but in our casual state, we definitely wouldn't have fit in.
We have now been to Dominica enough to see past its second-world nature and just enjoy the people, the history, the architecture and the mountainous scenery.
