Day 66: Barbados

This will be a quick summary of what we did yesterday, as we have just arrived at our next island and have to start our day. Usually, I prepare my blog posts each evening, but I was too wiped out last night (and rum might have had something to do with it) to write anything.

We started the day with passing short rain showers and this beautiful rainbow off the back of the ship as we ate breakfast on the back terrace behind the buffet and Cafe Caribe. Luckily, we found a covered table, so we stayed dry even as it rained.

There were three other cruise ships in port when we arrived at 10am. Two were the Sea Cloud and the Silversea ship we saw on prior visits. Very small, they probably hold less than 300 passengers together. The third was a ship we'd never seen before, the Kristina Katarina. It was also tiny, so although we arrived mid-morning, we were given the best berth and knew that the beaches would not be too crowded.

We set out to walk to the Hilton, on the southern end of Carlisle Bay, the large bay bordered with a long stretch of beach right in the capital city of Bridgetown. We wanted to check out the various beach bars along the beach to see which offered the best deal for beach chairs and umbrellas. After walking the length of the beach, we decided to settle for the day at Lobsters Alive. It didn't look like much from the beach, but was less crowded than either The Boatyard or Harbour Lights, and had the best umbrellas.
