Day 6: Cozumel

My prayers were not answered and my sunburn didn’t subside overnight. I didn’t have to convince G that today was going to need to be a ship day, and a shaded ship day too. We met up in the Pacific Dining Room where he had two glasses of OJ and I had my usual grapefruit and avocado toast. From there we took the aft elevators up to Deck 17 and settled into cushioned and shaded sofas on the back of the ship.

While we were at breakfast, we started talking with our next table neighbors and discovered that they were Regal refugees also. They booked this cruise the same day that the Regal’s November 10th cruise was canceled (we waited until the afternoon of the next day) and were fighting to get their CCL OBC applied to this cruise by showing that they would have had the OBC on the Regal cruise. There is power in numbers, and we went to Guest Services together and- eureka- we both got the OBC added to our on board accounts. As it should be.  Yay!!

We stayed on Deck 17 until Guy’s Burgers opened at noon. I know, I know I had my once a year burger on the Regal Princess on Grand Cayman day, but we have heard much ado about these burgers since we’ve been onboard and…nope. Not for us. Neither of us finished ours. But we did check off one more restaurant in our quest to dine at all, or at least most, of the included dining places on board.

Even in the shade, the sun eventually came around to our side of the ship and the air lost any breeze and it got hot. I made my way to the spa and used the thermal suite until it was time to get cleaned up for dinner. I will definitely miss that. People with a lot of Carnival ship experience are disappointed by the thermal suit compared to other Carnival ships (whose names elude me), but I think it is just wonderful. And everything works just as it is supposed to, as this ship is so new.

Once again today, I was in the shower when the cabin phone rang. Grrr. Angela was missing another spa appointment, this time a full body something. Angela had a real fine time planned on board. I hope she gets to schedule another cruise soon.

Tonight was our last dinner with Kadek in the HoJo Atlantic. It was elegant night (not that most people dress any differently) and G had prime rib and I had lobster and literally one broccoli floret. There has been no chance of me leaving dinner too full.

Kadek was the best, and reminded me of our favorite waiters on the Regal TA. But the HoJo Atlantic is truly the most depressing venue on this entire ship. And in both the Atlantic and Pacific dining rooms, music is played but all that can be heard is the thump thump of the bass. All night, every night.

We chose the Central Stage performance of We are One as our primary entertainment night. Everything we’ve seen there has been outstanding (that’s where Rio Carnival was performed). The costumes, the aerialist, the pyrotechnics and laser lights…we were really impressed.

Then we went to an adult comedy show with comedian Percy Crews 2. We had really enjoyed all the comedians (two perform every night) we’ve seen on board.

If you’re getting the impression that we’ve found a lot to like about the Carnival Jubilee, you’re right. The ship is pristine,  the crew is universally welcoming and friendly, and we haven’t met one fellow passenger of any age that was grumpy. We would return in a heartbeat, and it would be so much easier since we know the ship and the Carnival way of doing things…but I would just know that, since I don’t generally eat fast food, I’m going to be hungry at times.
