Day 20: At Sea

Today was relaxing right from the start. The Sanctuary Restaurant featured a brunch in lieu of breakfast and lunch, which means we didn’t even have to rush to get food this morning. Instead I attended Dr. James Engman’s enrichment lecture on The World of Scale (I wasn’t up in time to hear his 9am lecture on sea otters), and then met up with G for brunch. Our food desires get simpler and simpler, and less and less, but I bet I’ve eaten at least a dozen pavlovas on this cruise. Every ship we’ve been on recently seems to have one food I can’t resist, and that’s the one in the Star Princess.

We tried to sit outside after brunch, but it’s just too chilly. In fact, Captain Arma said in his noon update that while he had taken credit for all the fantastic weather we’d enjoyed for most of this cruise, knowing exactly who to call to make it happen, they had stopped accepting his calls. Apparently. 😉

But it’s given us an opportunity to compare the ride on the back of the ship to the front. We went up the back panoramic elevator to Deck 17 to see what the movement was like for those cabins, and then walked forward and down to our cabin. There’s a world of difference, even with a ship this size and reasonable waves. We’ll stick with Deck 9 midship in the future.

Our only plan after dinner was the 7pm comedian performance in the Princess Arena, though there was also an acrobatic show in The Dome and Stephanie Hodgdon was back in the Piazza. Tomorrow’s a busy day, and we decided a movie in the cabin sounded good, too.

As for the comedian…I have to find out how he gets his gummies on board. Definitely was 45 minutes spent in a bizarro world. That was pretty raw humor for a Princess cruise. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But he was halfway to Carnival humor. His adult show tomorrow night should be quite a ride.
