Day 27: Koper, Slovenia (but really a quasi-sea day)

Today unfolded exactly how I wished it would, and was exactly what we needed. We awoke to a bright light shining into our cabin- the sun!- and that made us hopeful for a nice day in port. But when we walked out on the Panorama Terrace, we discovered it was actually quite cold. No matter; we had omelets and fruit and gathered up what we thought we'd need to just do a simple walk around the freight port city of Koper. Even Rick Steves, who can find something good to say about most things European, had scant praise for Koper, citing only its town square as a highlight. But we set off to see the town square...

...and didn't even make it as far as passport control in the port terminal.  We saw several crew members sitting on benches by the port terminal, a sure sign that there was free WiFi, and joined them. We were overdue to spend some serious Internet time catching up with things in the Real World. However, it was so chilly that G decided to see if he could get the signal from the Promenade Deck and returned to the ship. Within a few minutes he signaled to me that he could...and then we discovered we could get it in our cabin, and in the Panorama Buffet. This was an abundance of riches, and marked the end of any desire we might have had to go ashore.

For the rest of the day we relaxed, did some research on Venice, paid credit cards and checked accounts, called Mom using Vonage (For free! Get the app!!), texted friends and generally had a grand old time. And that is all I have to report...

...until dinner, which featured the Italian menu (I've been waiting for it to enjoy more of my red wine). We shared our bottle of MTP champagne with our next door tablemates and had a most convivial time. We will be sorry to see them leave on Wednesday! Tonight's production show, What the World Needs Now, is beginning in 5 minutes. I will publish this post using the last few minutes of free WiFi (we sail at 8pm tonight) which will save me a little time tomorrow morning, because we will be on an open deck watching our sail into beautiful Venice and we can't wait!  And then we'll have a full day seeing the sights and riding the vaporettos. We will overnight in Venice (yay!) and depart on November 9, the first day of the next cruise.

We needed a slow day today. We are rested and ready to make the most of our time in Venice.

Life is good. :-)
