Day 60: At Sea

There was lots of looking back and forward in time today...four weeks ago today we were flying Air Tahiti to Rarotonga and settling in at the Muri Beach Hidwaway; four weeks from today (from right now!) we'll be home and sleeping in our own bed. And the best part of that is that we'll have to only fly from Los Angeles to home on that final day...no 8 1/2 hour Air Tahiti Nui flight from Papeete to Los Angeles first. I love these repositioning cruises!

I finally slept in this until after 7am this morning, and then spent some time reading before I joined G in the Club Restaurant for breakfast around 8:45am. Decadence!!  I ate lightly, fruit and cottage cheese, because these sea days can turn into all day food and drink feasts. I was happy to see that another quilling session with departing Company Performance Manager Alex was being held at 10:15am. The only attendees were three of the dancers from the new cast and me (since the session was scheduled simultaneously with the culinary show and galley walk-though). The new dancers had to learn how to quill so they can conduct these sessions starting next cruise, but they made me promise to come too, to help out. Desperate times and all...

These are supposed to be wild ginger...some imagination on your part is required ;-)

We were meeting comedian David Deeble, who performed his first show with us a couple of nights ago, for lunch in the Club Restaurant. It's always interesting to hear how entertainers got into the field (and most of them started as kids, as David did with magic), and we were surprised to learn that David performs at a comedy club near us. We'll have to get to one of his non-cruise shows.

Douglas Pearson was giving a talk on Tahiti history that I haven't seen yet this year, so I went to the Cabaret Lounge as G headed to a hot tub after lunch. It was such a beautiful day!  We have been very lucky with weather this cruise, with the exception of Huahine and our first sea day. We decided to skip the Grapevine Wine Tasting (we've tasted the wines and heard the jokes already) and spent the second half of the afternoon in the shade of the Promenade Deck. G dozed and I read...until a brief squall blew in and we were getting misty rain on us. We decamped to our cabin, but a short time later I saw the sun had returned.

The Captains Circle party for this cruise was held at 7pm, and we had invited our 'next-door' tablemates to join us, so the eight of us rushed poor Melvin and Larry Mark though dinner to allow us to leave the dining room by 6:50pm. (Honestly, I think next cruise we may keep it simple and just eat in the buffet on Captains Circle night.  I don't usually order lobster anyway, which is the entree that holds the appeal on formal night for most.) It was nice to have our new friends join us as we were honored as this cruise's Most Traveled Passengers (there were only 20 or so Elites so please keep in mind for context). ;-)

We stayed in our front row seats for the production show Motor City, performed by the new cast for the first time. That was certainly exciting and their very minor blips only served to point out how easy the old cast made it all look when it definitely isn't. I love that Motown music, performed live by the Pacific Princess show and never tire of seeing that show!

I am tucked into bed by 10pm to prepare for our always beautiful (but always early) approach to Moorea tomorrow morning. As Cruise Director Sammi said at the close out for tonight's show, there is no camera in existence that can capture the beauty of Moorea, but that doesn't stop me from trying.

I love these islands.  :-)
