We were slow getting started for the evening tonight. Ten days with no schedule at all on Holland America spoiled us, I think. We skipped Skywalkers altogether, and G instead spent some extra time in a hot tub. We can tell that all the flecked, poured flooring around the pool and hot tub areas has been re-done, and is more flecked, with a rougher finish. It looks really nice, and is most likely safer too.
We have a family of four sitting at a nearby table at dinner in the Michelangelo dining room. It's really too bad Sutti provides such superb service, because it appears that, based on his stellar abilities as a waiter the first night, this family has reserved this same table every night for the rest of the cruise. And these kids (twin girls, about 7 or 8 years old, well old enough to know better) are making dinner a rough experience for everyone else in the area.
This is quite a switch from last year's Christmas cruise. We often remarked last year that no one was in the dining room; however, all the cabins near us had four kids each who bounced off the walls until midnight. This year we have the noisy dining room, but an older couple on either side of us. It's quiet as a library back here this cruise. After too many sleep disturbed nights on the Noordam, I think I prefer it this way.
It's a Christmas cruise. There are lots of kids. We knew it would be that way when we booked. But I do hope that when the ports start coming, one each day, the demon girls who yell (really!!) through dinner are too wiped out to do anything more than eat pizza by the pool.
Tonight's show was the production show What a Swell Party, the Cole Porter one. We do enjoy it, but decided instead to skip entertainment in lieu of a walk across the open Lido deck and a bag of popcorn from near the MUTS pool. We returned early to our cabin and G is currently working to clear mail off the bed so we have a place to sleep tonight.
Quiet, peaceful, fan sound-less, kids sound-less sleep. I think the couples on either side of us have beat us to it.
