It's hard to believe that this tree has even survived in this harsh environment, perched high above the Atlantic. In fact, the southern tip of Eleuthera took a direct hit from a hurricane this past August.
On the way back, we walked the length of the Caribbean beach we encountered at the tip of the island, and I found a sea biscuit and some beautiful shells. But further down the beach, I looked down at the powdered sugar beach and saw...a sand dollar, the first one I have ever found!!
Days probably go by without anyone walking on the beach. Possibly weeks. We walked between 8 and 9 miles today between our round trip to the southern point and our explorations of both beaches and the lighthouse. In 4.5 hours we didn't see another person, a car, a house...nothing. This place is so remote that it's best accessed on foot or by 4WD.
And that's why we loved it.
